Philosophy: Worship & Arts

WORSHIP IS...
-ascribing worth to God
-giving God glory
-recognizing that He is God, and we are not
-turning our hearts and souls toward God
-a gift offered to God
-our lives lived for His purpose
-how we express our love for God
These are but a few brief descriptions of what WORSHIP is.
In all reality, the list could go on and on, and for each person and culture the list might look a little different.
There are dozens of different "theological" definitions of what worship IS and ISN'T.
At The Grove, we believe that worship is, among other things, our response to God for his love, grace and favor extended toward us.
We believe that the expression of worship is both super simple and extremely broad.
Everyone has been created unique... different... and everyone expresses themselves just a little different from the person next to them.
The Grove tries to invite people into a freedom of worshiping our Creator in ways that both honor and glorify Him, and also fit the individual.

TELLING THE STORY
On Sundays, we use a variety of different mediums to TELL the STORY of God.
We sing songs about God and to God, about who God is, what He has done, and what He will do.
We read Scripture, proclaiming and telling the story of God.
We read and say prayers, listening to and making our requests known to God.
We open His Word and try to understand what it says, and how it can make sense in our world.
And in doing so, in telling and re-telling the story of God, we re-align our individual stories with HIS story.
Worship gives us space and provides us with an opportunity to re-align our stories with His story.
THE ARTS
The Grove is passionate about God as a CREATOR, and as such we are passionate about the ARTS and about ARTISTS.
If you are an artist, or an advocate for the arts, then The Grove wants you to know that you're welcome here, you'll be encouraged here, and you'll have a place to be and do what you were made to be and do.
We utilize the arts often during our Sunday morning worship gatherings, in addition to having opportunities throughout the year to create and display original art.
Our vision for the Arts ministry is that we would use the arts to express and engage in worship within our church, and introduce Christ to the culture outside the church.
MUSIC AT THE GROVE
The music on Sunday mornings is best described as "folk meets rock meets soul meets gospel meets blues meets organic indie." Make sense?
